Davy

Davy Performing

Through the work of Davy Spillane, the Uileann Pipes made the quantum leap from the solo and ensemble piping of traditional Irish music to being fully integrated into many other musical forms and genres.

“There are simply no other pipers who are as capable of spanning this uneasy divide as is Davy Spillane. His instinctive feel, love and understanding of both his instrument and traditional music forms, coupled with a highly imaginative approach and willingness to explore new music genres, places him apart both as an Uilleann Piper and Musician”- PJ Curtis

Davy was a soloist in Riverdance, and Bryan Admans MTV unplugged amongst many others. He has collaborated with many of the world’s great artists and is a featured guest soloist on their albums.

He is a Grammy award winner for his collaboration with Paul Winter on the Celtic Solstice Album in 2000.

Davy was born in Dublin in 1959. He attended Irish-speaking schools where he started to play music from the age of 12 and soon became impassioned by the pipes. At age 13 he started playing at traditional sessions and fairs all over Ireland where he met and played with many of the masters of Irish music. From the age of 16 on he played at festivals and concerts in Ireland, Britain and Europe.

He was one of the founding members of the most successful Irish Bands of the 80′s, Moving Hearts.
